Brasserie d'Achouffe / Rubbens
Rubbens is a distillery founded in 1817 in the East Flanders town of Zele. Initially an agricultural company, it soon began to devote part of its resources to the distillation of gin from grain and malt. In 1872, Charles Rubbens invested in the expansion of the facilities and devoted even more resources to distilling. In 2008, the Rubbens family sold the distillery to Dirk Beck, a farmer in Sint-Gillis-Waas, who moved the distillery to Wichele.
Brasserie d'Achouffe is a Belgian brewery founded in the late 1980s by Pierre Gobron and Chris Bauweraerts with a budget of only 5000 euros. Gradually their beers began to gain prestige and they had to increase production. Today, their red-capped gnome beers are known the world over. Although Brasserie d'Achouffe belongs to the Belgian brewing group Duvel Moortgat, their beers are still brewed on the original premises in the Belgian Ardennes.
