Westmalle Trappist Tripel

Westmalle Tripel is known as "the mother of all triples" as it is considered the first triple beer in history. It was created in 1934 to celebrate the opening of the abbey's new brewery. This extraordinary lager with a cloudy appearance has a complex and intense aroma with notes of hops and malt. The flavour is smooth and balanced with fruity and hoppy overtones. 9.5% alc/vol.

Westmalle Trappist Dubbel

Although the first Westmalle roasted beer was produced in 1856, Westmalle Dubbel is based on a recipe from 1926. This Trappist Dubbel-style beer undergoes a second fermentation in the bottle in the abbey's cellar for three weeks. The result is a dark-coloured beer with a complex, very fruity, caramel, chocolate and yeasty aroma. The taste is complex and pleasant with roasted malt, chocolate and nuts. 7% alc/vol.

Westmalle Abbey

Westmalle Abbey was founded in 1794, although it was not until 1836 that it was elevated to the status of an abbey. In the same year, beer brewing began, as the soil of the abbey no longer permitted the cultivation of grapes for wine production. In 1856 the first roasted beer was produced, considered the first dubbel in history. In 1934, a 9.5% strong pale ale was created, which was called tripel and is today's Westmalle Tripel. Recently, Westmalle Trappist Extra, the refectory beer or "patersbier", originally intended for the abbey's monks' own consumption during their lunches, was launched for the first time.
