Kwak
Kwak is a Belgian Strong Ale with an amber colour with reddish highlights and a creamy, persistent head. Its aroma has hints of malt, liquorice, spices and caramel. On the palate it is very balanced and smooth with citrus and sweet notes. Alcohol content: 8.4 proof.
Brouwerij Bosteels
Brouwerij Bosteels was founded in 1791 in Bruggenhout by Evarist Bosteels. The Kwak beer is inspired by the story of the 18th century brewer Pawel Kwak from Dendermonde. This brewer not only brewed beer but also owned an inn between Michelen and Ghent where the horse-drawn carriages of the mail stopped to rest. Due to a Napoleonic law, the drivers of the wagons were forbidden to get off the wagons, so it was not possible for them to enjoy the beer in the inn. Kwak invented a bracket so that the glass could be hitched to the carriage, so that the driver could drink without getting off the vehicle.
This story inspired Brouwerij Bosteels to start brewing Kwak in 1980. This Belgian brewery also produces the popular Tripel Karmeliet. The brewery has been in the Bosteels family for 200 years, and is now in its seventh generation.
