Duvel is a Belgian Strong Ale, brewed with natural ingredients including pure spring water, barley and the Saaz and Styrian Golding hops, which give it its characteristic bitterness. The beer undergoes a unique 90-day brewing process that gives it its pleasant flavour. The original yeast strain that Alber Moortgat brought back from his trip to Scotland in 1920 is used during fermentation. It has a golden colour with creamy, abundant and persistent foam and a powerful aroma with citrus notes. Its flavour is bitter with spicy hints, complex and full of character. 8.5 proof.
Duvel Tripel Hop Citra
Duvel Tripel Hop Citra is a Belgian Strong Ale brewed by dry-hopping with Saaz Saaz, Styrian Golding and Citra hops. This craft beer has been brewed every year since 2007 with a third different hop variety added to the Saaz Saaz and Styrian Golding hops. In 2016, Duvel Moortgat asked fans to choose their favourite Tripel Hop, with Duvel Tripel Hop Citra winning and becoming a permanent beer. This strong Belgian beer shows a golden colour and creamy, persistent foam and has a tropical fruit aroma with citrus and floral notes. The palate is very refreshing and smooth with bitter hop notes. Duvel Moortgat
Duvel Moortgat was founded in 1871 by Jan-Leonard Moortgat, a great beer enthusiast who descended from a family of brewers. Duvel was created to commemorate the end of World War I and was initially called Victory Ale. In the 1920s, during a tasting, a local personality exclaimed "Nen echten Duvel!" ("This is a real devil!" in Flemish), so the beer was renamed Duvel. In addition to Duvel, Duvel Moortgat has a wide range of high quality beers in its catalogue, including Maredsous, Vedett, Liefmans, etc.
